The information comes from a separate study conducted by the European Institute of Oncology’s Division of Thoracic Oncology and published in Clinical Lung Study. Researchers looked at how recipients of the COVID-19 vaccine fared after being diagnosed with thoracic malignancies, including mesothelioma.
There were 206 patients with thoracic cancer who received a COVID vaccine between February 2021 and September 2021. Lung cancer, which is the most prevalent thoracic cancer and one of the most prevalent cancers overall, was present in the majority of the patients. Malignant mesothelioma was present in eight of the patients.
Pleural mesothelioma, which develops in the thin lining that lines the outside of the thoracic cavity, is the type of mesothelioma that is a thoracic malignancy. Pleural mesothelioma frequently spreads to the lungs from this lining because it is so close to the lungs.
