Archaeologists in Egypt have uncovered a tunnel, a tremendous underground passage at a sanctuary that is remembered to contain the tragically missing burial place of Cleopatra.
The tunnel passage – traversing the length of more than 12 football pitches and cut into the rock around 13 meters underneath the ground – was found during unearthings at the sanctuary of Taposiris Magna, west of Egypt’s second-biggest city, Alexandria.
Cleopatra was the last sovereign of Egypt, administering from 51 to 30BC before her demise at 39 years old. The renowned sovereign imparted one child to Roman ruler Julius Caesar, as well as twins with general Imprint Antony.
The burial place of Antony and Cleopatra is tragically missing, however, is accepted to be sited at Taposiris Magna – a sanctuary devoted to the old Egyptian god Osiris.
The recently unearthed burrow was tracked down by a group of archeologists from the College of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, headed by Dr. Kathleen Martinez. She is looking for Cleopatra’s burial chamber.
Dr. Mustafa Waziri, Secretary-General of the Preeminent Gathering for Archeology, said its architectural design shows up “basically the same” as the Passage of Eupalinos – a reservoir conduit worked in the sixth century BC in Samos, Greece, then filled in as a water system.

Dr. Zahi Hawass, previous top of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities, previously said that assuming Cleopatra’s burial place is found, “it will be the main revelation of the 21st century”.
