FIFA World Cup 2022, which held its 22nd edition. It is the second World Cup staged fully in Asia after the 2002 competition in South Korea and Japan, and it is being held in Qatar from November 20, 2022, to December 18, 2022. It is the first World Cup to be held in the Arab and Muslim worlds.
FIFA World Cup 2022 is the most costly World Cup ever organized, with an estimated cost of over $220 billion.
The field will grow to 48 teams for the 2026 edition, making this tournament the last with 32 competing teams. This FIFA World Cup 2022 is being hosted in November and December to avoid the extremes of Qatar’s hot heat.
In FIFA World Cup 2022 there will be 64 matches contested over a compressed 29-day period in eight locations spread across five cities.
The Qatari national football team, competing in their first World Cup, was automatically qualified along with 31 other groups. Qatar was the second host (after South Africa in 2010) to lose all three of their group games, the earliest host nation to be eliminated, and the first host to not advance past the group stage.
The teams competed for points in eight round-robin groups of four teams during the first round of the tournament finals, with the top two teams from each group moving on. These 16 clubs will move on to the knockout stage, where three rounds of competition will determine which teams will compete in the final, which will be hosted at Lusail Stadium on December 18, 2022, to coincide with Qatar’s National Day.
