TikTok is introducing a new feature that will let users see the rationale behind why a specific video was suggested to them in their For You stream.
According to TikTok, the new function is intended to provide content that is recommended in For You feeds additional context.

You can now tap on the share panel and choose the question mark icon labeled “Why this video” to find out why a specific video was recommended to you in your For You feed. You can then see the justifications for why a certain video was suggested to you.

TIKTOK might know that you watched a specific video because of your interactions, such as the material you view, like, share or comments you post, or searches you conduct. You can also be informed that you were seen the video as a result of the accounts you follow.

According to TikTok, you can also receive a notification that a specific video was shown to you because it was recently posted in your area or because the subject matter is well-liked there.
The TikTok app also stated in a blog post about “Why a video is recommended for you” that this feature is one of many ways, aiming to deliver meaningful transparency to the individuals who use their platform.
